We’ve got another one with Reggie Watts out this weekend, my dear friends, a 90s house influenced pop track with that organ bass we all know and love. Give it a spin: streaming / Bandcamp.
Or, if you prefer the audiovisual experience: Eric put together an exceedingly wholesome compilation of friends walking away from the viewer (comments are wide open for interpretations on that symbolism). Check it on YouTube.
One of the major themes of 2024 for us was friendship — an omnidirectional expansion of the community, little pockets of it flourishing in a few places around the world. Berlin. PNW. London. Texas. NYC. LA. New Mexico. Old Mexico. Cairo. Etc etc. You can see it in Eric’s video, you can see it in Kat’s polaroids that accompany each of these releases with Reggie. That’s been the vibe lately.
I can’t speak for everyone, but personally, I was always worried that I would get to my thirties and my friendships would shrink, either in strength or in number. I had spent my teens and twenties watching folks settle down, form family units, and kind of drop out of the greater community a little bit — It’s certainly what the movies, TV, and news were showing me, and I didn’t know many (any?) folks that operated differently. Luckily, I have experienced the exact opposite — more and stronger bonds, continually weaving. Loom life. Gonna need those blankets one day.
Anyway. Reggie’s been a big part of the 2024 friendship expansion pack, and making music or merriment with him feels as natural as if we’ve known each other for years. What initially seemed like a chance collaboration now feels like the beginning of intertwining careers; I have no doubt we’ll have many more stories to tell together as the river of time winds on.
Listen to the track. Full EP out next month y’all.
LAST THING: If you’re a paid subscriber, you’ll see below this paragraph an outtake from our sessions this past summer with Reggie — this will never see a proper release, but it’s secretly my favorite thing we made in those sessions and gets stuck in my head all the time.
